Awards Banquet Recap

First off, I want to thank everyone who attended the Awards Banquet. Your attendance is what makes meetings and events possible, and makes for a fun time.

It was sad to hear some members couldn’t make it at the last minute, but that’s okay, stuff happens.

Thanks to Luke N2GDU for swearing in our new treasurer, and for swearing in our new board members.
Thanks to Gen KD2OHD for organizing the evening entertainment, ham trivia, and slideshow.

Member of the Year:

You members voted Gen Griesbaum KD2OHD, as “Member of the Year”!
Here are just a few things about what Gen does. Gen has been club secretary for several years. (I think 6-7 years). Gen is there stepping up for both ham-fests, Dunkirk Lighthouse weekend, and Dunkirk CCC (aka Winter Field Day). She continues to take on various tasks that others won’t step up to do!
I can go on, but I won’t! Her efforts continue to help move this club forward!

Rookie of the Year:

For the second time in club history, we had 2 Rookie of the Year award recipients

Brian Tabor (KE2BAU)

Brian comes to club when work or family time allows!
Brian continues to demonstrate what just one part of our club is about. Working radio’s.
He will come in, say hello, walk into the radio room, sit at one of the open radio stations and start making contacts. This is why we (as a club), have built up our comms and radio room to continue to be the state of the art! It’s for all club members to use and get the utmost out of. We have been told several times it’s one of, if not the best comms room in WNY! (That is what visitors/others that come visit say.) Last night at the banquet, Brian rolls in after work, grabs a open seat and opens his camera case. He takes his camera, walks around taking pictures of all the members seated at table for dinner! And yes, he even got me handing out things. I think we may have another photographer to help document our club and events!

Andrew Fisher (KE2AAC)
Thanks to Andrew for continued physical support, computer/IT work and volunteering to assist where ever needed. He seams to “just be there” when/where needed. Even at the ham-fests, I turn around and “he is there”. He is always asking what I may need  help with, or what can he do to assist. Andrew was one of the few that pitched in at the Dunkirk Lighthouse weekend to assist Gen, myself or anyone in need! If you thought I was active in supporting the club, Andrew has been running circles around me. Yes, I did say that! Some members (that shall remain unnamed) nicknamed or refers to Andrew as “SJ”! That is in “Sal Jr.” It’s humbling to hear and know other members recognize their fellow club members efforts.

Winter field day is January 26-28 2024! That’s a wrap on 2023! The last board meeting of the year is on 12/28 at 7:00pm.
